About the Role

Effectual is seeking an experienced Infrastructure/DevOps Engineer for a 6-month contract-to-hire position. The role focuses on designing, deploying, and supporting AWS-based infrastructure to power enterprise-grade solutions. The engineer will collaborate closely with digital enterprise architects, cloud engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient platforms. This fully remote role requires availability during Central U.S. business hours (UTC-6).

Responsibilities

  • Architect, deploy, and maintain large-scale microservices on Kubernetes (including AWS EKS).
  • Implement and manage service mesh solutions such as Istio, Linkerd, or Consul.
  • Design and maintain Helm Charts and Custom Resource Definitions.
  • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, or GitLab CI.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
  • Develop scripts and automation using Python, Go, Ruby, Java, .NET, C++, or similar languages.
  • Support cloud migrations from on-premises systems to AWS.
  • Conduct system performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting with Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK.
  • Collaborate with developers to improve AWS architecture and deployment practices.
  • Provide incident response, root cause analysis, and operational support for production systems.
  • Contribute to architectural designs, documentation, and project governance.

Required Skills

  • 4–7 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure roles.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Strong expertise in AWS cloud services and architecture.
  • Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or CodePipeline).
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK).
  • Hands-on knowledge of Docker and Linux systems.
  • Experience in scripting/programming (Python, Bash, Ruby, Go, Java, .NET, C++, etc.).
  • Understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and Agile practices.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, Data Analytics).
  • Experience with GitOps workflows (Git, ArgoCD, app-of-apps patterns).
  • Knowledge of static/dynamic code analysis and testing tools (SonarQube, Selenium).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes service mesh (Istio, Linkerd).
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS networking and routing.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
